This page contains answers to common questions handled by our support staff, along with some tips and tricks that we have found useful and presented here as questions.

Note: In these answers we will follow a few shorthand conventions for describing user-interface procedures. Key combinations will be presented like this: Ctrl+Alt+Delete, which means that you should press and hold down the Control key, the Alt key, and the Delete key at the same time. Menu selections will be presented like this: File->Open, which means that you should open the File menu, and then make the Open selection.

How do I map a drive letter ?

First exit all programs until you are back at the desktop. Next use the LEFT mouse button and double click on network neighborhood.

Then find the DocSTAR computer in the list and LEFT double click on it.

Now RIGHT click on the drive letter that you want to map.

Next choose the corresponding drive letter in the list and click "OK". If your not sure which drive letter to use look in the "My Computer" window on another computer that has DocSTAR.


My DocSTAR is locked up?
This is not an uncommon problem with computers in general. Simply press the reset button on the CPU, this should fix the problem, if not call Digital Document Systems, Inc.
How do I label and format a disk?
First close any programs that are open, then double click my computer with the LEFT mouse button. Now place your BLANK disk in the drive. RIGHT click on the removable disk drive and choose format.
Next click on the full button and in the label box type in you new volume label (EXAMPLE) "VOLUME_000x". then click start and then "OK".
Click "OK" to this message below
Click close to this window.
Click OK.
Then Close out of this window by clicking the "X" in the top right corner.

How do I create a duplicate disk?
First close any open programs on the DocSTAR then insert the disk you intend to backup FROM. Next double click with the LEFT mouse button on Disk Duplicator

Can't locate SCSI device?
This is a common message usually caused by shutting off the scanner. To fix this simply close out of DocSTAR and right click on "My Computer" and left click on properties.
Next choose device manager from the tab list
Now double click on "SCSI Controllers" with the left mouse button.

Then right click on the Adaptec device listed below the SCSI Controller listing, and click refresh. Then click "OK". If this doesn't work shut off the scanner power and shut down the system, then turn the scanner on first then the rest of the system.


How do I run scandisk and defrag?
First close any programs that are open, then double click on "My Computer" with the left mouse button.
Next right mouse click on the "C:" drive and choose properties.
Now click on "Tools".
Then click on the "Check Now" button for scandisk.

Last click on the "Start" button, when finished click "Close".

Now click the "Defragment Now" button .

When finished close all windows.

*** Defrag & Scandisk should be run at least once a month to avoid speed loss and crashes with all computer systems.*** .
